The Babyfoot Lake Botanical Reserve is home to a wide assortment of biological diversity, including the largest known stand of rare brewer spruce. The reserve is close to the Fiddler Mountain timber sale, which unfortunately spilled into part of the reserve - an oversight, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The trail to Babyfoot Lake passes through a burned over forest which is recovering with gusto. Notice the "venetian blind" effect on the forest floor, shadows cast by old growth snags which provide much needed shade for new growth to sprout and grow. The lizard in the lower right corner is an example of how life is returning to this forest, without any human intervention.
