Barbara Bernstein writes and performs avant-folk music. With the acoustic singer-songwriter tradition as a starting point, she infuses her original songs with the flavors of jazz, avant-garde and world music. Her music interlaces the personal and the political, as she explores our physical and spiritual relationships to landscape, society and to each other. An eclectic multi-instrumentalist, she plays guitar, viola, violin, recorder, bass and kalimba.

Bernstein is also a nationally-acclaimed and award-winning producer of radio documentaries and radio short-stories, which are heard internationally on public, community and college radio stations.

Her latest music project is Maps of Memory, a CD of original songs about lost landscapes of the West, political protest and complex matters of the heart.
