The Media Project is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization, founded in 1974 as an advocacy, educational and support organization for independent video and filmmakers. Formed to serve the needs of media producers who do not have access to mainstream distribution networks and resources, the Media Project’s mission has been to encourage and nuture the work of emerging video and filmmakers. Over the years, the organization has provided a variety of services for its members and the community at large, including: workshops and classes, a newsletter, a directory of independent producers and related services in Oregon, and a distribution service for educational media. It has also sponsored open screenings, film festivals and speakers. In addition, the Media Project sponsors a variety of independent film, video and radio projects.

Media Project's distribution and production arm is called Feather & Fin Productions.
